Amore è il mio peccato e odio la tua miglior virtù:
odio del mio peccato, fondato su amor colpevole.

Due amori io posseggo, conforto e perdizione,
che simili a due spiriti sempre mi perseguono:
l’angelo migliore è uomo superbamente bello,
lo spirito malvagio è donna di colore oscuro.

È come febbre l’amor mio e sempre anela
quel che più a lungo il mio mal fomenta,
nutrendosi di ciò che il dolor rinforza
per appagare solo un morboso desiderio.

Ahimè, quali occhi mi ha messo in fronte Amore
che non son consoni alla vera vista

O crudele, come puoi dire che non t’amo
se sempre a mio sfavore prendo le tue parti?
Non penso forse a te, o tiranna ingrata,
quando per causa tua dimentico me stesso?

Da quale forza attingi questo tuo potere
di reggere il mio cuore con le tue miserie?

Più dolce sarebbe la morte se il mio ultimo sguardo avesse come orizzonte il tuo volto.
E se così fosse, mille molte vorrei nascere per mille volte ancor morire.
